Wednesday 6 April
The Swifts entertained Celtic Bhoys Academy in their penultimate game of the season, and final home game.
United started well in the evening kick-off and soon broke the deadlock.
Jamie McNeill and Midfield Maestro, Matthew Lindsay, controlled the game. And it was Matthew who opened the scoring.
A sweeping counter attack saw United attack with pace, Graeme McMullan held the ball up and laid it off outside the box. The bouncing ball found it’s way to Matthew on the edge of the box, after a slight shimmy to get in position, the crowd watched in awe as his spectacular left-footed half-volley from outside the area sailed past the flailing goalkeeper into the top corner. What a strike!
United continued their good form and doubled their lead when Taylor Graham jinked down the left and crossed for Cameron McKissick, who was just inches from connecting. The Celtic Bhoys’ defender was less fortunate and his attempted headed clearance fleww past his own ‘keeper.
Ballynahinch were comfortable in defence throughout with Ryan Graham, Conor Graham, John McMenamin and Jordan Patterson rarely threatened, while Stefan Graham was equal to any attempts on goal.
In the second half, Celtic Bhoys had some half chances but more often than not squandered their opportunity or found themselves offside.
But United had chances with Scott Cheevers coming closest. It wasn’t long before a third for Ballynahinch put the result beyond doubt.
Graeme McMullan completed the scoring after finding space in the box and slotting home to make it 3 – 0.
Davy Teggarty rang the changes, with Legendary Player/Manager Gareth Bingham still unavailable, introducing Harry Bell to rest Matthew, and replacing Ryan with Adam Davidson to see out the game and secure the three points and clean sheet.
Another good performance for The Swifts who extend their unbeaten run to 4. With only one game remaining, they may feel the season is ending too soon.
