Match Report: Ballynahinch United 4 – 1 Barn United

Saturday 23 October

Ballynahinch entertained Barn United at The Millbridge in Division 1B hoping to pick up another 3 points.

It was the away team who threatened early on causing Scott Cheevers and Jordan Patterson problems out wide. United fought into the game and soon created their own chances with Taylor Graham, Stuart McMullan, Ronnie Johnson and Harry Bell controlling midfield. Harry was soon replaced by Gregg Allison due to illness, and it was Gregg’s pace that troubled the Barn backline and provided Matthew Shaw and Ian McMullan with crosses to attempt to take the lead.

Matthew Shaw soon broke the deadlock when he stabbed home to give Ballynahinch the lead. Barn piled the pressure on and were knocking on the door but couldn’t hit it until the dying seconds on the half. A long ball found the Barn forward behind the home team’s defence and he managed to slot it into the corner. The goal was given despite the calls for offside.

The equaliser deflated Ballynahinch but after the break they were determined to go ahead and Matthew Shaw once again gave the home team the lead.

Ballynahinch scored again when a corner from Stuart McMullan found Matthew Shaw again, his header deflected off a defender into the net.

Barn attacked back but Scott Brashaw and Matthew Hall defended well to limit Barn’s chances.

With Barn pushing forward, Ballynahinch exploited the space left behind. A long pass from Stefan Graham picked out Matthew Shaw who plucked the ball out of the air and slotted home to complete his hat-trick and celebrated with an embarrassing SIUUU, the only SIUUU of the weekend for Man United fans.

Luke Curry came on to see out the remainder of the game and help United clinch 3 points and a 4 – 1 victory.
