Blues lose to Bangor
Ballynahinch traveled to Ballyvarnet, overlooking Clandeboye Park, to face Bangor Amateurs and were greeted warmly by a familiar face, former United player and coach, John Jones, who now managers The Ams.
Despite missing a few from last week’s triumph, United were eager to add to their points tally and started brightly causing the home team issues and nearly going ahead when Jack Forbes’ effort was blocked on the line and the rebound fell nicely for the defender to clear.
Unfortunately, United couldn’t build on that attack and Bangor went ahead. A cross from their right found an attacker who was able to head into the far corner.
United regrouped and threatened without Jonny Shannon, Scotty Brashaw, Stuart McMullan and Jordan Patterson being too troubled at the back until a well worked free kick routine allowed Bangor to double their lead on the stroke of half-time.
United came out with renewed vigour after the break and caused the home team problems in the hot sun. They soon managed to pull one back when Jack Forbes outmuscled his opponent but struck the bar. Taylor Graham struck the rebound, his powerful effort was blocked by the keeper, but sneaked over the line.
With Gavin Crawford and Alan Dickson anchoring the midfield, United were able to create more chances as Jack Forbes, Robbie Hagan and Ian McMullan came close. Some 6 yard box pinball saw luck shine on Bangor as the ball failed to fall to the boys in blue whilst other efforts were blocked.
At the other end, Stefan Graham made a great save to keep United within touching distance.
It wouldn’t last long when Bangor added another from a loose ball after a corner.
Graeme McMullan and Luke Curry were introduced as United pushed again but couldn’t change the scoreline, leaving Ballyvarnet without the result they came for.
